Which reports does a small retail shop actually need?
In short
Most owners need five: profit and loss to know if the shop makes money, stock value to know what's on the shelf, trending products to know what to reorder, register reports to check the cash drawer, and sales by staff to see who sells. RetailPOS Studio has all five, filterable by location and date.

Reports in your kind of shop
General retail
Finding the dead stock
A variety store's biggest hidden cost is stock that never sells. The stock report shows quantity and value by category, and trending products shows what does move, so the next order buys more winners and fewer slow lines.
Gift shops
Season review
After a holiday, compare this season's sales by category with last year's, see what's left at cost, and decide what to discount. Reports by date range make it a ten-minute job.
Phone shops
Handsets versus accessories
Phone shops often find accessories and repairs earn more profit than handsets. Profit by product or category makes that visible, which changes what goes in the window.
How it works
How do reports stay trustworthy?
- 01
Built from real documents
Reports read from the same sales, returns, purchases and adjustments you record day to day. There's no separate data entry, so the profit figure reflects the actual cost recorded on each received purchase.
- 02
Register closings with a count
Each register is opened with a float and closed with a cash count. The register report compares expected and counted cash and card totals per shift, so a difference is noticed the same night, not at month end.
- 03
Per store and combined
Every report can be filtered to one location or show all of them. Owners of several shops compare branches side by side without exporting two systems into one spreadsheet.
- 04
Exports for your accountant
Reports can be printed or exported, so your accountant in New York, Dubai or Lahore gets clean figures in the format they prefer, along with tax totals by rate.
What goes wrong without good reports
Busy but not profitable
A packed shop can still lose money if margins are thin. Profit reports show it before cash runs out.
Cash differences found too late
Without nightly register closing, a short drawer can't be traced to a shift or a person.
Reordering by gut
Buying what you remember selling, rather than what the data shows, leaves best sellers out of stock.
