For mobile phone & electronics shops
A mobile phone shop POS with every IMEI on record
RetailPOS Studio is a mobile phone shop POS built for the counter that sells handsets, a wall of accessories and repairs at the same time. Every handset is tracked by IMEI from the distributor to the customer, warranties print on the invoice, repairs run on job sheets, and supplier credit is kept in a ledger. It fits a stall in Hafeez Centre, a shop in Deira or a store on Canal Street.
The trade, honestly
What makes a phone shop hard to run
- 1
High value, tiny margins
A handset is expensive and earns little. One untraced unit, one free out-of-warranty repair or one swapped-device claim wipes out the profit on many sales.
- 2
Hundreds of near-identical accessories
Cases and protectors for dozens of models in several colors are easy to mix up at the counter.
- 3
Repairs on scraps of paper
Devices left for repair with a handwritten slip get lost, and customers keep calling to ask if they're ready.
- 4
Distributor credit
Handsets often come on credit settled weekly. Without a ledger, balances get disputed.
A week in the shop
A week in a typical phone shop
On Monday a batch of handsets arrives from the distributor on a week's credit. Each box is scanned into the purchase by IMEI, and the supplier's ledger shows the new balance with its due date. Accessories for the new model arrive too, as variations by color, and get labels printed in one batch.
Midweek, a customer brings back a phone with a charging fault. A search on the IMEI shows it was sold here four months ago with a 12-month shop warranty. A repair job sheet is opened with the intake checklist, a charging port comes out of stock, and the customer is notified when the status changes to ready. Another customer's handset turns out to be from elsewhere, so the job is quoted and charged.
On Saturday the distributor's rep comes to settle up. The ledger shows every handset batch, the part-payment made by bank transfer on Wednesday and the cash paid today. Both sides agree in a minute. At closing, the profit report shows what the owner suspected: accessories and repairs earned more this week than handsets.
