How does sales tax work on a POS in Pakistan?

Pakistan charges general sales tax on most goods at the federal level, and provinces charge sales tax on services. In RetailPOS Studio you set up your tax rates, combine them where needed and attach them to products, and choose whether shelf prices include tax. Receipts can show your NTN and STRN with the tax amount. This is general information, not tax advice; check rates and your obligations with the FBR or your tax adviser.

Retailers classed as Tier-1 by the FBR, such as shops in large air-conditioned malls, chains and larger stores, must integrate their POS with the FBR so invoices are reported in real time. RetailPOS Studio does not claim FBR POS integration. If you are a Tier-1 retailer, raise it on your demo before you sign up.

Smaller retailers are generally not Tier-1 and keep sales and purchase records for their returns. The software's sales, purchase and tax reports give you or your accountant the figures by period and by tax rate, rather than adding up registers by hand.

Local habits

How do Pakistani shops actually sell?

Khata for suppliers and regulars

Most shops buy from wholesalers on credit and let trusted customers pay later. RetailPOS Studio keeps both as ledgers: supplier balances with pay terms, and customer credit with limits, so the khata lives in the system instead of a notebook.

Cash first, wallets rising

Cash is still most of the takings, but JazzCash, Easypaisa, Raast and card payments are growing. Each is recorded as its own payment method, so the day's cash-up shows exactly what is in the drawer and what is in the account.

Phones sold on instalments

Mobile shops often sell handsets with part payment today and the rest later. A sale can be partly paid, the balance sits on the customer's account, and the IMEI stays linked to the customer until it is cleared.

WhatsApp catalogues

Customers ask for prices and photos on WhatsApp first. Your online store, generated from your catalogue, gives a link per product with the price and stock to share in a chat or status.

Shop owners and staff in Pakistan often read Urdu more comfortably than English, while invoices for corporate buyers are usually in English. RetailPOS Studio runs its interface in Urdu with a right-to-left layout, lets each staff member choose their language, and prints receipts in Urdu or English as the customer prefers. Languages

Pakistan: questions

01Do you sell RetailPOS Studio in Pakistan?Day to day
Yes. We sell and support RetailPOS Studio in Pakistan, priced in rupees, with sales and support over WhatsApp, phone and video call in Urdu and English.
02How much does POS software cost in Pakistan?Cost & billing
Counter is Rs 2,900, Stockroom Rs 5,400 and Chain Rs 9,800 per location per month, plus applicable sales tax. Annual billing gives two months free.
03Does the POS work in Urdu?Day to day
Yes. The interface runs in Urdu with a right-to-left layout, each user can choose Urdu or English, and receipts can print in either.
04Is RetailPOS Studio FBR integrated?Day to day
No FBR integration is claimed. Tier-1 retailers must integrate their POS with the FBR, so if that applies to you, raise it on your demo before signing up.
05Can it handle khata and customer credit?Day to day
Yes. Supplier and customer balances are kept as ledgers with pay terms, credit limits, payments and running totals.
06Which payment methods does it work with?Cost & billing
Cash, cards through your bank's terminal, JazzCash, Easypaisa, bank transfer and Raast can each be recorded as payment methods. The POS records payments; it does not process them.
07Do I need to buy new hardware?Setting up
Usually not. Any PC, laptop, tablet or Android device with a modern browser runs the register, and common USB barcode scanners, thermal receipt printers and label printers work alongside it.
08Does it work without internet?Day to day
No. RetailPOS Studio is hosted and needs an internet connection at the register. Keep a mobile hotspot as a backup and a UPS for power cuts.
09Can it track PTA-approved phones?Day to day
You record each handset's IMEI and can note PTA status against it. RetailPOS Studio does not connect to PTA's DIRBS system; customers can check a handset's status with PTA directly.
