For general retail stores
A POS for general stores with thousands of small lines
RetailPOS Studio is a POS for general stores, variety shops and discount stores: scan-and-go checkout, a catalogue that copes with thousands of cheap SKUs, barcode labels for everything that arrives without one, and low-stock lists that turn into reorders. Your online store is generated from the same catalogue, so neighbors can check what you carry before they walk over.
The trade, honestly
What makes a general store hard to run
- 1
Too many SKUs to remember
Batteries, kitchenware, stationery, toys, cleaning products and seasonal goods add up to thousands of lines, most of them cheap. Without a system, nobody knows what's in stock until a customer asks.
- 2
Items with no barcode
Imported and loose goods often arrive unbarcoded, so cashiers search by name or guess the price, and the queue grows.
- 3
Thin margins
When an item makes cents of profit, shrink and wrong prices wipe it out. Every untracked loss matters.
- 4
Cash-and-carry buying
Weekly runs to wholesalers are planned from memory, so best sellers run out and slow lines pile up.
A week in the shop
A week in a typical variety store
Monday starts with the trending products report from the weekend and the low-stock list. Phone chargers, storage boxes and school glue are low. The owner turns the list into a purchase order for the cash-and-carry wholesaler and sends it on WhatsApp before opening. The weekend's register closings already show the cash matched on every shift except one, short by a small amount, and the register report names the shift.
Tuesday afternoon the delivery arrives. The order is received line by line; two items came short and stay open on the order. Forty unbarcoded storage boxes get labels printed from the purchase in one batch, and they're on the shelf before the after-school rush. Costs on three items went up, so the owner adjusts the selling price once and the new shelf labels print with it.
By Saturday the queue is long but moving: everything scans. Regulars give their phone number and earn points, and a neighbor who checked the online store on Friday night comes in for the exact extension cord she saw listed. At closing, each register is counted and closed, and the owner checks profit for the week on her phone at home.

Peaks
Seasons a general store plans for
01
Back to school
Stationery, bags and lunch boxes sell in a few weeks. Purchase orders placed early and trending reports from last year tell you how much to buy.
02
Summer
Fans, water bottles and outdoor goods spike with the heat in Houston, Dubai and Karachi alike. Low-stock alerts keep them on the shelf.
03
Holidays and Eid
Decorations and gift sets need to sell through. Stock value by category after the season shows what to discount.
If most of your shelves are tools, fasteners and building supplies, the hardware store edition is built around huge SKU counts and contractor accounts. Hardware store edition
