How do I print barcode and price labels?

Print barcode labels in RetailPOS Studio on a label printer or sticker sheets: choose products, quantities, label size and what each label shows.

RetailPOS Studio prints labels with a barcode, product name, price and other details, either on a thermal label printer or on A4 or letter sticker sheets. The barcode is the product’s barcode or SKU, so scanning it at the counter adds the right item.

Before you start

  • A label printer (for example a 2-inch thermal printer) or a laser printer with sticker sheets.
  • Labels loaded and the printer driver installed, with the label size set in the driver.
  • Products with a barcode or SKU.

Step by step

  1. Go to Products → Print labels.
  2. Search for products and add them to the list. To label a whole delivery, open the purchase and use Print labels from there: quantities fill in from what you received.
  3. Set how many labels you need for each product.
  4. Choose what each label shows: product name, variation, price (with or without tax), business name, packing date.
  5. Choose the barcode setting, which is the label size and layout: a continuous roll for label printers, or a sheet layout for stickers.
  6. Press Preview, check one label, then Print.

Choosing a label size

  • 38 × 25 mm fits small items like phone accessories and gifts.
  • 50 × 30 mm gives room for a longer name and a clear price.
  • 2 × 1 inch is the common US size for thermal label printers.

You can create your own barcode setting with exact width, height, margins and columns if your labels are different.

Common problems

  • The barcode won’t scan. The label is too small for the barcode’s length, or the printer is printing too light. Use a larger label or increase print darkness.
  • Labels drift down the roll. Calibrate the printer’s gap sensor, and make sure the label size in the driver matches the barcode setting.
  • Price on the label differs from the till. You changed the price after printing. Reprint after every price change.

Tips

  • Print labels straight from purchases so every unit received gets labelled before it reaches the shelf.
  • For serialised items like phones, label the box with the product barcode and keep the IMEI on the manufacturer’s label.
